Veterinary act 1966
In order to safeguard the welfare of animals, the veterinary act states that it is an offence for any person other than the owner of the animal to treat it without prior permission of the referred veterinary surgeon. Jemma will work with your vet to obtain the appropriate permission on on your behalf prior to assessing or treating the animal.

Equine Massage Therapy
Jemma is a trained Equine Massage Therapist specialising in Myo-Fascial Release. Myo-manipulative therapy is a more in-depth form of Equine sports massage. Rather than just focusing on massage techniques it addresses physical therapies and exercises to enhance the horses wellbeing a performance.
Trained to the highest level by Equitherm in Thermal Imaging, Jemma uses her knowledge combined with training and a high spec infrared camera to detect issues in your horse.

Kinesiology Taping
Kinesiology Tape is a rehabilitative technique designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process by providing extended soft tissue manipulation. This manipulation mimics the effects of massage while at the same time providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting their range of motion
The Kinesio tape and method was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in 1973 to provide a non-pharmaceutical method to alleviate his patients’ pain in between appointments.
Benefits of Using Elastic Kinesiology Tape
Decompresses the tissue thereby enabling increased blood flow and oxygenation which promotes and facilitates healing
Decreases muscle spams, tension, soreness and trigger points
Helps relax overused muscles
Decreases edema and swelling
Provides support to tendons, ligaments and joints in both athletic and injury rehab situations
Helps to improve muscle and joint mechanics
Tissue decompression helps provide pain relief by decreasing the pressure on the skin's pain receptors and how the receptors respond to messages from the brain
Can be used in a preventative manner for horses that have weaknesses or are prone to injuries
Can help horses recover faster in athletic training situations
Can assist with horses that have chronic conditions such as lesions, kissing spine and chronic stiffness

Maintenance Massage
Is your horse feeling stiff and lacking propulsion? Does your horse look tired and lethargic?
Maintenance massages are vital for horses at any level of work.
Massage affects the muscles by relieving tension, reducing soreness and the feeling of fatigue, reducing stress points, improving performance by enhancing posture and balance, increases a range of motion, tones the muscles and mobilizes nutrients into muscles and removes toxins.

Equine Thermography
Is your horse 'not quite right'? ''Mystery lameness'' Naughty horse? Poor Performance?
Thermal Imaging is a completely safe non-invasive infrared technology that detects abnormal heat patterns. It shows the signs of inflammation or muscle atrophy to give an early indication of pain, injury, disease or infection.
Thermography is proving to be an invaluable tool in the detection of issues such as:
- Ligament and tendon damage
- Back pain/kissing spines/ saddle fit issues
- Bone injuries/splints/stress fractures/arthritis
- Sacroiliac pain/injury
- Laminitis and navicular syndrome
- Hoof abscesses or imbalance
- Dental issues
- Muscle strain and atrophy
- Nerve damage
So how does thermography work? The thermographic camera detects infrared waves on the body surface that are invisible to the human eye and converts them to an image we can see. Consider what happens when you injure yourself: You bang your knee; the area becomes hot, red, and inflamed; and at a cellular level as an immune response, the body releases chemicals such as histamine. Changes in blood flow might directly correlate with inflammation. Thus, at the most basic level, where there is increased circulation there might be inflammation (becoming warmer). The opposite is also true: With chronic disease, scarring, atrophy (muscle wasting/loss), nerve damage, or disuse, areas might become cooler.
